The Crime Branch on Tuesday claimed arresting a man who had brought fake currency notes to the tune of Rs 5.6 lakh. The accused—Zahoor Khan, 51, a resident of Sehore district—was arrested when he got off the train at Habibganj railway station.
The police had got a tip-off that a man was carrying a consignment of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) on Dakshin Express. A police team caught the man and the currency notes which he was carrying in his bag were recovered.
Inspector general of police (IG), Bhopal range, Yogesh Choudhary said Khan is a native of Ashta in Sehore district. "We are interrogating him to find out his links and ascertain the name of the kingpin," said Choudhary.
Crime branch officials said Khan was a peddler and had brought the money from his contact on Indo-Bangladesh border. "Initial interrogation reveals that he had brought the notes from near Malda district in West Bengal. It is suspected that the notes came to him from his contact in the neighbouring country," said an officer.
"Generally, such persons circulate these notes themselves and also give part of the notes to others. For example, for Rs 700, fake notes worth Rs 1,000 are given," added the officer. Zahoor has been booked and is being questioned. Earlier, the Crime Branch had arrested some persons who had brought FICN from Nepal border. However, on this occasion, the fake currency has come from the Bangladesh border.
