The Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party locked horns on Monday over extending the assembly’s special session by two more days to discuss issues pertaining to losses incurred by farmers across MP because of unseasonal rainfall earlier this month.
While the Opposition party threatened to stage a sit-in right inside the House on Tuesday if the special session was not extended by two days, the ruling party seemed adamant on keeping the session limited to just a day.
The war of words comes just a day ahead of the one-day special session convened by the assembly to discuss farmers’ issue. The Tuesday’s session would also witness discussion on some bills and a supplementary budget.
Talking to mediapersons on Monday, leader of opposition in the house Satyadev Katare said: “The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has decided on Monday that if the special session’s time duration is not extended by at least two more days to discuss farmers’ issues, then the Congress would stage a sit-in in the House.”
Katare said their demand for a special session was not just for a discussion on farmers’ plight, but also announcement of adequate relief package for the farmers and immediate suspension of all the recoveries from them.

{{/usCountry}}While the BJP was found in no mood to pay heed to the Congress demands, they have allowed taking up the farmers’ issue in the House on Tuesday, as per the business list released late on Monday evening.
Earlier, cornered on the MPPEB scam by the Opposition, the ruling party in an unprecedented move had curtailed the budget session to just nine days, including holidays by forcing House’s adjournment sine die on February 26. The session was expected to transact its business up to March 27. However, the Opposition has chosen not to raise the MPPEB scam issue during the special session on Tuesday.
