MP: Raped, burnt Dalit minor succumbs to her injuries

A 14-year-old Dalit girl who was allegedly raped and set on fire at a village in Panna died at Rewa hospital while undergoing treatment, police said. The victim was admitted with around 80% burn injuries.

A 14-year-old Dalit girl who was allegedly raped and set on fire at a village in Panna died at Rewa hospital while undergoing treatment, police said. The victim was admitted with around 80% burn injuries.

The accused was arrested earlier and probe is on to ascertain whether anyone else was also involved in the crime or not.

On December 22, the girl was raped and set on fire in Chandravan village that falls under Simariya police station. Police said the minor girl was raped by Pappu Lodhi and when the girl resisted and threatened to expose him, the accused poured kerosene oil on her and set her aflame.

The victim was later referred to Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. In her dying declaration she had stated that Pappu had raped her and set her on fire. After battling for life for around six days the minor girl died at Rewa hospital late on Monday night.

According to local reports, the Rewa district administration had also provided monetary help of Rs 20,000 to the girl’s family. The dead body was sent to the girl’s native village by ambulance where last rites were performed.
