The handbag of the wife of a Maharashtra MP -- containing jewelry worth over Rs 8 lakh and Rs 20,000 in cash -- was looted while she was on board a train that was between Bhopal and Gwalior stations.
The MP, Sanjay Dhotre told HT, “At Itarsi railway station, we had dinner and went to sleep. When my wife woke up after Jhansi railway station passed, she found her handbag missing. Later, we lodged a complaint at GRP station in Gwalior.”
The incident, which occurred on the Nanded-Sriganganagar Express, once again raised serious questions about the security measures that the Government Railway Police claim to have adopted on crucial train routes between Mathura and Bhopal. This was the same train route where MP finance minister, Jayant Malaiya, his wife and other passengers were looted at gun point near Agra on March 12.
Miscreants have also targeted the MP from Sidhi constituency, Riti Pathak and MP from Rewa constituency, Janardan Mishra and stolen their bags from the Sampark Kranti Express in March.
In another incident, a 29-year-old girl from Kanpur was thrown from a moving train near Bina town last November, by a gang of robbers after she resisted them. The GRP only managed to catch the accused two months later.

{{/usCountry}}When contacted, director general of the GRP, Anuradha Shankar said, “We have busted several gangs involved in the crimes in moving trains. Why do you always look for negative news?”
Gwalior GRP officials said that a case has been registered in the theft from Dhotre’s wife and investigation was on.
