In yet another case of medical negligence in Madhya Pradesh, a woman was forced to deliver a baby aboard a tonga (carriage) in Khargone district on Saturday as ambulance did not come on time.
The incident comes a day after a 23-year-old woman was forced to deliver baby in a makeshift tent of sarees outside a government hospital just because its doctors were too busy attending a meeting.
Resham Bai, a resident of Devlanya village in Khargone district, was helped by local women to deliver the baby on the tonga her husband arranged to take her to a hospital after waiting for the ambulance.
Resham Bai, the mother of three boys, gave birth to a baby girl. HT has a video of the incident shot by locals in its possession.
Tonga owner Rajendra Gongla said: “Resham Bai was in labour pain and a few women selling some items at the Khargone bus stand made a shed from clothes and polythene and helped her deliver the baby.”
“A 108 ambulance reached the spot after she delivered the baby and took them to a hospital,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Pregnancy and maternity arrangements in the state’s district hospitals have always been in question. Arranging an ambulance is not less than a task in the state. Damoh collector Sriniwas Sharma also failed to arrange an ambulance on June 12 for his mother, who died due to delay in treatment.
Sharad Pandit, joint director of health services, told HT on Sunday: “We won’t take this issue lightly. I will investigate the matter.”
