In an important judgment in the state regarding maintenance sought by a wife, a family court in Katni denied maintenance allowance to a woman after her husband proved that she indulged in adultery.
The court provided relief to the man struggling to cope up with vague allegations of dowry harassment from his wife. Rekha (name changed) was caught committing adultery by her husband Rajkumar (name changed) and now she is staying with her parents in district Katni.
She filed an application before the family court demanding maintenance allowance saying she had no source of income and her husband was in a government job. She even levelled vague allegations of dowry harassment against her husband saying he demanded to bring Rs 2 lakh cash from her parents and was not happy with Rs 20,000 sent by her father.
Rekha and Rajkumar were married in a traditional ceremony held on June 15, 2009 and were residing in Jabalpur. The trouble between them started on November 16, 2009 when he caught her in a compromising situation with one Sanjay (name changed).
Subsequently, Rajkumar reported the matter at Gohalpur police, Jabalpur, and also informed his in-laws about Rekha's act. On November 17, 2009, the husband returned to his wife - the jewellery, household items and other articles gifted by the in-laws - in the presence of senior community members.

Katni family court's principal judge Arvind Kumar Shukla said it is evident that the applicant Rekha was in relationship with the person, who visited her before marriage and was working with her in a private firm.
