In the wake of the price hike in diesel, the state government on Wednesday increased the passenger fare for low floor buses, motor cabs and Tata Magic in Bhopal. This was decided in the meeting held in the office of the Bhopal divisional commissioner Praveen Garg, who presided over the meeting to discuss the proposed hike in the city bus service.

Garg reasoned that given the increase in the oil prices and other expenditures, the hike in the passenger fare was justified. Garg instructed the officers to restart the monthly pass facility for the low floor buses in the city from March 1. Garg also asked the taxi operators to install electronic meters in their taxis.

He instructed regional transport officer Bhopal ML Soni to ensure that only those vehicles should ply on the city roads that have the required permit. He said that with the help of the traffic police, the vehicles running illegally should be stopped.
