A recklessly driven police bus went out of control at Rangmahal Square on Thursday morning and crushed a woman to death.

Furious over woman's death, the local residents damaged the bus by pelting stones. The bus was carrying police constables from District Reserve Police (DRP) Line, Nehru Nagar, to Police Control Room, Jehangirabad.

Later in the evening, local residents also staged road block by putting the body on the road near Palash Hotel. The residents demanded action against the accused police driver and compensation to victim's family. Later, senior police officials and district administration's officials reached the spot and assured the agitating crowd of justice.

According to information, the woman, Munni Bai, a resident of Banganga Colony, was standing at the square and waiting for signals to be green so that she could cross the road. The bus hit her from behind.

The police officials, however, said an auto-rickshaw suddenly came in front of the bus and, in a bid to save the auto-rickshaw, the bus driver lost control over the bus and rammed into the road divider. The woman, who was standing near the road divider, also came in front of bus and was hit by it, said police.

The police later registered a case against accused police driver Dhaniram under section 304 (A) and started investigation. The driver, however, is yet to be arrested.

"We have registered a case and started investigation. The accused driver will be arrested soon," said town inspector (TI), TT Nagar, Manish Raj Singh.
