Deputy commandant of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Vijay Dhankar, an accused in a sexual harassment case, surrendered before the court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) Abhilasha Mawar court in Bhopal on Monday. He was later sent to judicial custody.

Dhankar had sexually harassed a 25-year-old woman constable of CISF, who was posted at Raja Bhoj Airport unit, on June 5, 2014. Later, the victim had attempted suicide by shooting herself with her service revolver.

According to sources, Dhankar’s bail plea was turned down by the court. On January 20, the court had served a notice to Dhankar after the police filed a charge sheet against him. While presenting the charge sheet, the police apprised of the court that Dhankar did not turn up despite a notice.

“Since he could not be arrested because of CISF guidelines, we served him a notice asking him to appear before the court on the day we were presenting the charge sheet, but he did not come. The court accepted our charge and issued a notice to him,” said in-charge of Mahila police station Pragya Namjoshi.

Soon after the incident, Dhankar was transferred to Durgapur Steel Plant in West Bengal.

He never came to Bhopal to record his statement despite repeated notices by the police. The victim was transferred to Ghaziabad when recovered after two months.
