Sunny, 16, son of Ram Bai, used to eke out a living by making idols while his mother and two sisters do household jobs. His father, Kalicharan Vishwakarma, had died several years ago.

Sunny hung himself on Tuesday after a police head constable visited his place and told Ram Bai that an arrest warrant has been issued against her in a case of power theft.

"A head constable of Bahodapur police station has been approaching us for the last two days with a warrant in a case of power theft and threatening me and my son that I would be arrested. This terrorised Sunny so much that he ended his life," Ram Bai alleged.

She also told the police that she had surrendered the power meter seven years ago to the Electricity Board and the department had also waived her power bill.

They are also agitated over the heavy electricity bills amounting from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 being sent to the residents.
