Curfew was imposed in the town following the eruption of violence after the alleged murder of a 23-year-old Bajrang Dal activist Deepak Kushwah on Saturday evening.

“At present the situation is normal but the curfew is still not lifted. In the evening a meeting will be held, in which it will be decided whether to relaxation the curfew or not and if yes, then for how many hours,” district collector Anil Suchare said, adding that after analysing the situation, the authorities will decide on Tuesday whether to lift the curfew or not.

Kushwah was reportedly attacked by a group of men and he succumbed to stab wounds at the town’s Baksariya locality. According to police, Deepak Kushwah was allegedly involved in five criminal cases and had an old enmity with his attackers. About four days ago they had a clash but the police had reportedly failed to take action.

Following the violence, heavy police force was deployed in the town, with 11 men arrested by the police since Saturday.

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj represents the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency.
