“I consider myself worthy for this examination because I want to serve (the) Madhya Pradesh police department and also the city and the state. I also wish to make efforts to eradicate crime.”
This is what Vyapam scam accused Ashish Awliya, 23, wrote on the OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheet in MP Police Constable Recruitment Examination-2013, in response to a question: Why do you consider yourself worthy for this examination?
The examination was conducted at different centres of Madhya Pradesh on April 7, 2013.
As per a Special Task Force (STF) challan, filed in the court of chief judicial magistrate, Bhopal (in connection with irregularities in the examination) Awliya got through the examination fraudulently.
He served as a constable from December 2013 to May 2015 and was posted in Shajapur district before he ran out of luck and landed in the STF net.
The STF arrested him during its investigation on complaints, which were filed by anonymous people.
As per the challan, a copy of which is available with Hindustan Times, when arrested by STF on May 7, 2015 the accused, who belongs to Nanakheda in Ujjain district, first tried to mislead the investigative agency by telling them that he paid Rs30,000 to one Amar Singh Sisodia, a resident of Agar Malwa district, against a deal of Rs1lakh. Later, it was found that Sisodia had died of cancer in 2013 and was known to be an honest person.

When his original OMR sheet and other documents were seized from the Vyapam office, Awliya’s fingerprint did not match.
