After Vishal Bhardwaj successfully attempted Indianising William Shakespeare’s classics

Macbeth
and
Othello
with
Maqbool
and
Omkara
respectively, it is now filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia’s turn to turn the Bard of Avon’s another classic,
Hamlet
into a modern-day Bollywood tale.
Dhulia, who will co-produce the venture with Brandsmith’s Rahul Mitra, says: “Adapting
Hamlet
will be very challenging, specially Indianising it in the background of UP.”
Will basing the movie in UP draw comparisons with
Omkara
? Mitra says: “We are definitely not going the
Omkara
way. It’s just that the locations might be similar as both movies are based in the country’s hinterlands.”
Model-turned-reality TV actor-host Pravesh Rana, makes his film debut with Hamlet. “I would strive to get into the skin of
Hamlet
for this role,” says Rana. The producers are still scouting for a female lead.
