Director Kabir Khan couldn’t have asked for a better opening for his latest outing, Ek Tha Tiger. The film, that released on Wednesday, has broken all box office records to amass over Rs 32 crore on the first day of its release.
Some trade pundits, though, are not surprised considering the rumoured Rs 150 crore budget of the film. Khan, who was in the Capital recently, said, “The budget of the film is not Rs 150 cr. Taking everything into account, it is around Rs 75 cr. I was always sure that the film will make profits but that’s not the aim. A film should go beyond records. People should remember the film and reccomend it.” He added, “For instance, when New York (his last flick) was screened at the Cairo Film Festival, a teary-eyed woman came upto me and said something in Arabic and went. I wish I knew what she’d said. But that’s what a film should do,” he added.
The film was also in news after he managed to rope in ex-lovers Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. “I wanted them to be a part of the film since day one and for me it worked out really well because they’ve known each other for years and have had a history. So I didn’t have to let my lead actors know each other to bring that real chemistry on screen,” he said. Asked about Salman’s infamous late-coming habit on set, he said, “Salman doesn’t come late on sets. He comes at a particular time. So we scheduled our shoot around that time and shot it accordingly and finished in time.”
