It's been a quarter-of-a-century since Mahesh Bhatt's musical Aashiqui hit theatres and introduced to us two actors, Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal, and one singer, Kumar Sanu, who threatened to turn Bollywood's existing power equations on its head. Roy is even rumoured to have signed 47 films just 11 days after the release.

Sadly, by the excitement wore off, the first two proved to be mere flashes in the pan and didn't do much to justify the hype.

But such was the craze for the film those days that in 2013, Mohit Suri's sequel to the film Aashiqui 2, proved to be an equally big blockbuster.

Aashiqui completes 25 years on Thursday, July 23.

Deepak Tijori

After Aashiqui, Deepak Tijori, who played Rahul's friend in the film, has worked in more films than both Anu Aggarwal and Rahul Roy put together. Deepak, who had already worked in a few films before Aashiqui, has worked in more than 50 films. He also worked in several TV shows including the first season of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss. He will soon turn director with Do Lafzon Ki Kahaani: The film stars Randeep Hooda and Kajal Aggarwal.
