‘Ex-Miss India Sonu Walia gets lewd calls, files sexual harassment complaint’
Bollywood actor and former Miss India Sonu Walia, best known for her roles in Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Dil Ashna Hai (1992), reportedly filed a sexual harassment complaint with the Mumbai police on Friday.
According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the 53-year-old actor said in the FIR that she had been getting obscene phone calls and videos from an unknown person for the past one week. After she told off the caller, the frequency of the calls – which are being made from different numbers – has only increased, it added.
Mumbai police told the tabloid that the numbers are no longer in use. The Bangur Nagar police have filed an FIR against unknown persons under sections 354 of IPC and other sections of the IT act.
According to the report, BJP leader Shaina NC has also been receiving lewd phone calls and messages since last December and has also filed an FIR with the cybercrime cell. NC said she tried to ignore the harassment but “it got out of hand” in February and she decided to approach the cops.
Hindustan Times could not independently verify the reports.
Sonu Walia found fame as the other woman in Rekha’s Khoon Bhari Maang (1988). She also holds a degree in psychology and has worked in a few TV shows.
Sonu married a US-based hotelier Surya Pratap Singh in 2010. He died after suffering from a kidney ailment. In 2015, she co-produced a film called Jogiya Rocks that tanked. She has mostly been missing from the public eye since then.
