Akshay Kumar gave me tips on acting as well as fitness: Vijender Singh

Boxer Vijender Singh is glad that it’s under the guidance of Akshay Kumar that he’s making his Bollywood debut, and even happier that the actor says Singh need not change to make a screen impact.

Boxer Vijender Singh is glad that it’s under the guidance of Akshay Kumar that he’s making his Bollywood debut, and even happier that the actor says Singh need not change to make a screen impact. “Akshay Kumar gave me tips on acting as well as fitness ... he said, ‘jaise tum ho, waise hi rehna. Don’t change yourself’,” said the Olympic bronze medallist, who will be seen in Akki’s co-production, Fugly.

The 28-year-old, who was the chief guest at Shri Ram College of Commerce’s sports fest on Tuesday, tried his hand at basketball and shot some hoops, successfully managing a three-pointer on the fifth attempt to declare the fest open.

Asked if the shift from the boxing ring to film sets was difficult, and if he was ­nervous to face the cameras for the first time, the Bhiwadi boy said, “No, I wasn’t ­nervous. I have done ad shoots earlier so I wasn’t that nervous. Acting is all about self belief. If the director is good, toh woh achhi acting nikaal hi leta hai. Plus re-takes ka scope bhi hota hai (A good director manages to extract good acting, and then there’s always the scope for re-takes).”
