Akshay Kumar hits out on Twitter

For the past few days, Akshay Kumar’s name has been attached with a small-budget Punjabi film, Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya. But the actor is unhappy that the makers are using his name to promote their film, because he had shot for the cameo as “merely a favour”, he said on Twitter.

The actor, in fact, went on to tweet: “I would like to apologise to my fans, unfortunately a favour I did for a Punjabi film many years ago, has decided to abuse my honest handout and is now using me to sell their film (sic),” he tweeted.

Apparently, the film’s posters prominently feature Akshay, and various websites also name him as part of the cast. But Akshay tweeted that he did it just as a favour for a late friend. “…and (I) shot for three hours for free, eight years later they seem to think splashing my face around as if I’m the hero of the film is going to help their turn over (sic),” he adds on Twitter.

But the Punjabi film’s director has a different take: “We have been giving out ads in trade magazines saying that he (Akshay) has a ‘special appearance’ in the film. In fact, we have 20 such ads. For close to two years, he hasn’t said anything. I don’t know what problem he has now. I also feel that they must be planning on releasing their Punjabi home production, Ba Ji In Problem, before our film,” says director Thakur Tapasvi.
