Amitabh Bachchan to play ghost again in Bhoothnath sequel

Big B will be back for the Ravi Chopra-produced sequel to Bhoothnath. This time, Nitesh Tiwari, co-director of last year’s National Award-winning film, Chillar Party, will be at the helm instead of Bhoothnath director Vivek Sharma.

A few days ago, reports suggested that the failure of BR Films’s last release, Bhoothnath (2008), hurt the company really badly. The Amitabh Bachchan-starrer dud followed another failure — Baabul (2006), also with Amitabh in the lead. It’s believed that the production house hasn’t quite recovered from the back-to-back flops. Now, Big B will be back for the Ravi Chopra-produced sequel to Bhoothnath.

BR Films will be hoping for this to be a much-needed hit. Founded by the late filmmaker BR Chopra, the production house is famous for the Mahabharat TV series in the ’80s, and films like Naya Daur (1957) and Waqt (1965), among others.

This time, Nitesh Tiwari, co-director of last year’s National Award-winning film, Chillar Party, will be at the helm instead of Bhoothnath director Vivek Sharma. “Mr Bachchan loves the script, and Nitesh has been in talks with him for a while now,” says an insider close to the development.

When contacted, Nitesh says, “It’s too early to comment on the film. It will take some time for things to get sorted because a lot of things have to fall into place.”

Is he himself interested in interiors, we ask. “Yes, I am, but the final decision is with the wife (Jaya Bachchan). And that’s how it should be. A home is a wife’s nest. She spends almost the entire lifetime to do up and build that nest. So, it all should be left to them,” he says with a smile.

‘Aaradhya is just another baby’

Reacting to the media frenzy that resulted over Aaradhya’s recent pictures (as Ash received a French honour), Bachchan Sr says, “We don’t create any kind of hysteria. It’s you people (media) who do it. She is just another baby, like anyone else. Aaradhya comes out very often. She also came out on my birthday. It was a nice occasion where the entire family came together.”
