Amitabh Bachchan to produce Gujarati film

Amitabh Bachchan, who is the tourism ambassador of Gujarat, has now deepened his relationship with the state by making his debut as the producer of a Gujarati language film, Saptapadii.

The movie, which stars Swaroop Sampat (Paresh Rawal's wife) and Manav Gohil, is a family drama. It has been written and directed by National Award-winner Niranjan Thade. "This film has made me richer as a filmmaker. The theme was playing on my mind for quite some time, so when I got the opportunity I immediately chose to make it," says Niranjan.

Bachchans go Gujarati Big B's debut production in the regional language to deal with social issues Saptapadii, AB Corp's maiden Gujarati production has taken heavy inspiration from the life of its lead actor, Swaroop Sampat Rawal. A source reveals, "Swaroop's character has been chalked out keeping in mind the work she does in real life. She helps a lot of NGOs and is personally associated with them." The source further adds, "The initiative of venturing into this kind of cinema was Jaya Bachchan's idea. Saptapadii falls into the category of modern Gujarati films. The crux of the story is what happens when a wife decides to help an orphaned child who is a victim of terror and the husband doesn't want her to get involved,"

The movie, which hits theatres on February 1, will have a worldwide release. Actor Manav Gohil, who is cast opposite Swaroop and is a popular face on television, says, "The passion of the makers was compelling and I instantly wanted to do the project. The making of the film was enriching as I got to play a much older man than my actual age. My director made it an effortless process and Swaroop is a sheer treat to work with."
