‘Aspiring actors have a backup plan’

Gone are the days when acting aspirants would put in all their efforts to fulfil their dream. Youngsters today come with a Plan B in the industry, according to Meghna Ghai-Puri, president of film and media institute, Whistling Woods International (WWI), Mumbai.

“The youth today is very practical. They do dream, try and aspire to get into acting, but at the same time, they have a back-up plan ready for them to go back to, if in case they don’t make it big in acting,” says Puri, who is the daughter of filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

“Similarly, on the other hand, star kids go to film schools for further involvement in the business. Look at Ranbir Kapoor,” she adds. Puri also squashed the notion that a director is the sole authority in the filmmaking process.

“A director is not the captain of the ship anymore. It is a team effort now. As Karan Johar says, a director has to be a good manager. If he is good at managing people, half of the work is done. So the whole process is changing slowly,” says Puri, who informs that a WWI institute in Gurgaon is also in the offing.
