The phrase ‘a big, fat wedding’ is incomplete without the word Indian in it. And Indians love everything about weddings, from planning them to being part of the extravagant celebrations.

Disney India, today (April 30), announced its new film Satra Ko Shaadi Hai (SKSH) together with John Abraham’s JA Entertainment and Shoojit Sircar’s Rising Sun Films to bring to the audiences a fun, entertaining and hilarious film that revolves around Indian shaadis.

With an ensemble cast of 50 actors, set in Bhopal, the film promises to bring out elements of the real Indian wedding — including inflated egos, rooftop romances, generation gaps, confused ceremonies, last-minute emergencies, as well as the fun, festivities, dance, music, family bonding and emotions.

John started his film production venture with Vicky Donor (2012) where he introduced Ayushmann Khurrana as the lead actor. Disney India’s UTV Motion Pictures made Kai Po Che (2013) and Aamir (2008), where they introduced Sushant Singh Rajput and Rajeev Khandelwal respectively on the big screen.

"At the heart of everything we do in the studio business, we ensure that we bring our audiences great stories that are original, innovative and delivered by the best and brightest talent in the business. Weddings have a deep, emotional connect with every Indian, and we loved the manner in which Arshad captured the true essence of a big, fat Indian wedding in the script. SKSH promises to entertain audiences of all ages," says Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director, Disney India.

John adds, "We are excited to tie up with Disney India for SKSH. The studio has a great team headed by Siddharth, and we are not only excited about this, but (also about) many more projects (we hope) to do together. We believe in the film, and have a talented director on board, who is doing a fabulous job of recreating the magic of weddings on the big screen."

"John and I have been like family since Vicky Donor (2012) and Madras Café (2013), and associating with a big studio was always our vision. We are very excited about our association with Disney India. The studio will bring their experience and robust distribution network, John will bring his charm, and I will try to facilitate the director to deliver his vision," says Shoojit Sircar of Rising Sun Films.

The film is slated to release in 2015.
