If a director’s films reflect his state of mind, Ram Gopal Varma must be in a violent mood. The film-maker, who debuted with Shiva in 1989, is all set for his latest release, Vivek Oberoi starrer Rakta Charitra. And, Ramu claims that the movie, which traces the rise and growth of Paritala Ravi, the political leader from Andhra Pradesh, “is the most most violent film that you will ever see.”

“I love stories of edgy people and found this one really dramatic. It is a story of revenge and has a lot of physical violence. You have to be strong-hearted to watch this film,” he says.

His decision to hold the film’s premiere at the political hotbed of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, despite hostile opposition and threats, prompted questions on whether it was a publicity gimmick. Ramu quips, “Of course it is a publicity stunt. Everything I do, I do it for publicity. I am in the business of making films and films need publicity.”

Having taken many digs at Karan Johar, known for making romantic films, Ramu is game for one more. “If you want to see great clothes, number of songs and romance, this movie is not for you. Many of these candy floss films bore me.”

The film-maker recently poked fun at Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, when he tweeted, “Just can’t stand the close up of Hrithik’s teeth being brushed by Ash (sic).” Asked to elaborate on the same, he says, “Hrithik is a superstar and looks great in Dhoom 2 and Krrish. What I said was my personal opinion.”

Ramu talkies

Abhishek Bachchan
“He is starring in my next project, Department, alongside Sanjay Dutt. I am excited about it.”

Karan Johar
“He stands for a kind of cinema, which is opposite to what Rakta Charitra stands for.”

Vivek Oberoi
“His vulnerability and arrogance was the requirement of the character.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali
“Whatever I said about (Bhansali’s film) Guzaarish on Twitter was my personal opinion.”
