The innuendo in Bhaag DK Bose… may have become a popular topic of conversation, but one person is unconditionally thrilled with the success of the Delhi Belly song — composer Ram Sampath. Not only because he’s created the tune, but also because the Aamir Khan Production is the first movie he has signed after he sued Rakesh Roshan for copyright infringement. The producer of Krazzy 4 (2008), had to cough up about Rs 2 crore after he was dragged to court over the unauthorised use of Ram’s composition that he had created for a mobile phone company, which Hrithik Roshan used to endorse. "Some people were supportive, but a good number were scared to collaborate with me," recalls Sampath, after the court ruled in his favour.

At that time, Sampath was left jobless for a few months, as regular work in advertising too had dried up. “The only good thing then was that Aamir Khan Productions had signed me on for the background score and one song for Delhi Belly,” says Sampath, who then made a comeback in the advertising circuit with the Docomo jingle. “Suddenly I was back. But this time, I was choosy and ready to say no. I wanted to make a transition towards a bigger canvas.”

Calling Bhaag DK Bose... the ‘ultimate underdog anthem’, Ram recalls the first time he heard Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics: “When I heard, Saabun ki shakal mein, beta tu toh nikla keval jhaag, I almost crashed my car. We all have been in situations when we’ve been called losers. Aamir wanted to highlight that.” Ram will also be composing for Aamir’s next helmed by Reema Kagti.
