Big B turns down Zanjeer remake

Teja plays Vijay — the role that made Bachchan a superstar in Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer (1973) — in the remake.

Mehra had planned a sequel with Abhishek and his parents, but Bachchan says he was unaware of this. He tells us, “Prakashji’s son Amit is remaking it with Ram Charan and I wish them all the best. I’ve not heard what they are doing with the script, but both Apoorva Lakhia, who is directing the film, and Amit wanted me to play a part. I had to turn down the offer with regret.”

However, he’s confident of Teja: “He is the son of a dear friend and a legend, Chiranjeevi. I’m certain he will do a fine job.”
