He was one of the greatest musicians Bollywood has ever seen. And if things go well, a biopic on the late RD Burman will start shooting within six months. Rampage Motion Pictures (RMP), one of Vicky Donor’s co-producers, plan to put together a film on the ace music director’s life.

“I’ve been working on the subject for a year. But I wanted to speak about it only after RMP came up with a good film. Vicky Donor’s success has made me confident about taking the project to the next level. Now, I will have a lot more credibility while approaching people,” says Ram Mirchandani, CEO of RMP.

soon. Maybe she has a point of view (on the story and film). Her consent is critical since nothing will move without her,” he says. “I am a huge RD fan and feel it’s high time to do a biopic on him.”

Although Ram remains noncommittal about the cast, sources say that Vicky Donor actors Ayushmaan Khurrana and Yami Gautam could feature on the producer’s wishlist. “We will get into casting, director and other details only after Ashaji gives us the go ahead. We will also meet others connected to RD,” says Ram.

The biopic will largely focus on RD’s youth and his music genius. “His story is very colourful and interesting. Our basic idea is to reacclimatise the youth with one of the best music composers in an entertaining manner. This biopic has the potential to become a cult film,” says Ram.

For his meeting with Bhosle, Ram has prepared a draft of the basic research and thread of the story. “It will help me explain to Ashaji the kind of film we are planning. But we haven’t zeroed in on exact details for the storyline. There are several options. For example, two IITians wrote books on RD’s life. Maybe those could become the basis of the story,” says Ram, adding that he plans to partner with music companies that own the rights of RD’s songs.
