Having foreigners work on Bollywood albums is quite common, but the makers of Cocktail have roped in four popular voices from Pakistan for their soundtrack, which is composed by Pritam.

Producer Dinesh Vijan says, “During meetings with Pritam, we realised that we needed songs that fit well with the modern characters of the film and that had desi emotions in them. To create a contrast, we took folk songs and re-did them in an international manner to get a cool cocktail.”

Dinesh says they wanted to use interesting voices and not just cash in on the popularity of Pakistani singers. “When we heard Masooma Anwar’s haunting voice, we got her for Lootna and for the club track Tere naam, we got Javed Bashir. Pritam always wanted to work with Imran Aziz Mia, who is the son of famous qawwal Aziz Mia. He has sung Main sharabi. Then we also have Arif Lohar’s Jugni.”
