Cricket doesn’t need any help: Abhishek Bachchan

While he may own a kabaddi and a football team, Bachchan says he doesn’t plan to buy a cricket franchise.

Abhishek Bachchan owns two sports teams — a football team and a kabaddi franchise. In fact, he says he has been a sportsman all his life. “I have loved watching and playing sports since I was a kid,” he says.

Abhishek Bachchan, who owns a kabaddi and a soccer team feels, cricket doesn’t need any help in India.

Ask Abhishek if he is also interested in buying a cricket team, and he says, “I don’t think so. I don’t know much about cricket. Also, I want to get involved in a sport that I can make a difference to. Cricket doesn’t need any help. Be it the infrastructure or players, cricket is brilliant in our country. That is why I want to be associated with a sport where I can contribute more.”

Abhishek, who has produced Paa (2009), says he isn’t “working on anything as of now [as a producer]”.

Meanwhile, even as talks of Don 3 are creating a buzz, Abhishek maintains that he does not want to reprise his father’s roles in remakes. “It’s like opening the floodgates. Being his fan, which film of his would I not do? You want to do all his films as a tribute, but you later realise how badly you have messed them up. I don’t think anyone can do a better job than what he has done. So I say no, and stay away,” he says.
