Kumar, 93, was rushed to the hospital in suburban Bandra, in the morning hours.

“He had swelling in his right leg and we wanted to get it investigated properly. So we took him to the hospital. Also, he undergoes routine check up every few months and that is being done as well,” the actor’s wife Saira Banu told PTI.

This is the second time the actor was admitted at the same hospital; on April 15, he had taken ill with pneumonia. Kumar had trouble breathing and his white blood cells had shot up. However, he made a quick recovery in two days. His wife and veteran actor, Saira Banu told fans on Twitter that the actor was doing well after treatment.

Saira Banu posted this picture on April 19 this year when Dilip Kumar was hospitalised for pneumonia to tell fans that he was recovering well.

The actor was born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan but adopted the screen name Dilip Kumar. In a career spanning over six decades, he gave hits like Madhumati, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Ram Aur Shyam, Karma and others. He was crowned as the tragedy king for playing a doomed lover in films like Andaz, Baabul, Mela, Deedar, Jogan and others.

He was last seen in the film Qila in 1998. Kumar was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2015. Earlier, he was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu also recently completed 50 years of marriage together on October 10.
