If the poster for Aamir Khan’s next, where he’s seen nude and hiding his modesty with a transistor wasn’t enough, one of the songs in the film has the word ‘tharki’ in it. Director Rajkumar Hirani, however, says that all of it should be taken in jest.
“There is a difference between vulgarity and nudity. People can look vulgar even when fully clothed. In fact, pehlwaans in akhadas wear even smaller langots. God knows why people are seeing through the transistor!” says the filmmaker, clarifying that his intent was never to titillate. “My idea was never to titillate. If my idea was to titillate, I’d have shot an item number,” explains Hirani.
Meanwhile, Aamir says people shouldn’t try to draw conclusions from the usage of the word ‘tharki’ in the film that sees him grooving. “It’s used in a humorous way, in a loving way and not to be taken too seriously,” says Khan.
