Actor Sonakshi Sinha posted a series of tweets recently in reaction to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s comments that her name was not included in a FIR filed against those present at the insult comedy show, AIB Roast, because her father, actor Shatrughan Sinha, is a BJP leader.
Asked if she found it necessary to clear the air because she didn’t want her father’s political position to be dragged into the controversy, the 27-year-old says, "I never want anyone to think that I need my father to fight my battles. That is not who I am and that is not who he has raised me to be. I wanted to address the matter myself, so I put it out as respectfully and calmly as I could out there, which he (Bhatt) appreciated as well, and the matter was sorted there and then."
However, she is quick to add that she thinks too much importance is being given to the controversy. "Honestly, I think it is (the controversy around the roast) pointless when there are much more important issues that need to be addressed in this country. People should be offended by corruption, poverty, rape, child labour, etc. instead of comedians cracking 'offensive' jokes."
On the professional front, her first film of the year, alongside actor Arjun Kapoor, did not do very well. However, Sona says that does not bother her. "Somebody once told me that "success has ruined more people than failure" and that is something that has really stayed with me. So, I prefer to not overdo a celebration when a film is a hit, nor sit and mope over a flop. Life goes on. My aim is to always work hard and do well," she says.
