Film: Chaurahen
Cast: Zeenat Aman, Soha Ali Khan, Victor Banerjee and Kiera Chaplin
Storyline: Based on novelist Nirmal Verma’s short stories, the film dissects the emotionally turbulent lives of an unfaithful husband, a young confused couple and an old single woman’s affair.…

Director: Rajshree Ojha (last directed Aisha in 2010)
Her last film, a catalogue for luxury brands and Sonam Kapoor’s fashion fanaticism, took Sonam’s daddy’s Anil Kapoor Films through rough territory. The film received terrible reviews and was declared a flop at the box-office instantly.

Music: Manikan Kadri
Not much is known about this music composer who only had this film listed on his IMDB page for the last five years.

Controversies/stunts
Produced and ready to go since 2007, Chaurahen is now being released by a multiplex’s initiative in select theatres. No points for guessing what took it this long.

Marketing/hype
The film toplines Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter, who will be seen in a seriously serious part, and in Eastman colour.

Our assessment
It feels like an autopsy of these background-score-less-conversations between couples wearing sombre faces and intense expressions.

With some infidelity, a kiss between Zeenat Aman and Shayan Munshi, and dialogue like ‘Happiness does not exist, it is only remembered in times of sadness’, the promos almost give it away. The fact that viewers may want to think hard about watching this film, that is.
