Farhan Akhtar's next inspired by his life

Filmmakers usually look for exciting stories to bring to the big screen, zeroing in on real-life incidents and heroes for inspiration. However, actor-director Farhan Akhtar seems to be looking inward instead. For his upcoming production, Fukrey, the writers have taken inspiration from Farhan’s life, before the latter found his footing as a filmmaker.

“Fukrey is a slang word for a person who does nothing. Farhan can identify very closely with the term as he was one all through his college life,” says a source.

“Even after he graduated from college, he did nothing for quite a while. His mother, Honey Irani, was worried about his future as he didn’t show the slightest indication to do anything or follow a specific career path. At one point, she even warned him and told him to get serious.”

Farhan admits, “I was a complete fukra for about two years after I finished college. All I did was lounge at home, watch all kinds of movies and go out with friends.” Then one fine day, inspiration struck and Farhan began working on Dil Chahta Hai (2001). The rest, as they say, is history.
