We have seen him in blink-and-you-miss-it appearances in films earlier but it is for the first time that Karan Johar will be starring in a full-fledged role.

And never to do anything in half measure, the filmmaker-chat show host-general Bollywood diva is going all-black in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet.

In the first look of the film shared by Johar on Twitter, he is looking everything his character Kaizad Khambatta is supposed to be - manipulative, devious and debonair.

"The villain in @anuragkashyap72 's #BombayVelvet… Kaizad Khambatta essayed by yours truly!!!," Karan tweeted.

Playing a businessman in the '60s Mumbai, Johar will be shown at loggerheads with Ranbir Kapoor's Johnny Balraj. The film also stars Anushka Sharma in a pivotal role.

Bombay Velvet is based on a Gyan Prakash book called Mumbai Fables. The film is a story of Bombay in the swinging '60s and the two protagonists -- a boxer, essayed by Kapoor, and an aspiring jazz singer, played by Sharma.

The film will hit theatres on May 15, 2015.
