Things people miss when they become stars… I wonder why.

Star: I really miss my privacy
Me: Really? Privacy? You’ve chosen to be in a profession where millions of people are going to watch you (at least you hope they will or the producer is in big trouble). You’ve chosen to be in front of the camera (instead of behind it). You’ve chosen to be on magazine covers and TV channels. Even your ‘private’ late-night temple visits are being photographed and printed the very next morning. Your ‘private’ thoughts are on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites. If you had any privacy, you would hate it and more importantly, you wouldn’t know what to do with it. So just enjoy the attention. It’s the main reason you wanted to be in films.

Star: I miss long walks in the rain
Me: If anyone walks for a while on Mumbai’s streets, even if it’s not raining, I will give that person a medal! A long walk in the rain will only ensure one of two things - either you will end up in an open drain, or you will end up with pneumonia.

Star: I miss the good old days
Me: In my so-called ‘good old days’; we didn’t have a car, a fridge, a TV or even a phone (forget a BlackBerry). We lived in a 500 square foot flat, travelled by BEST buses or trains, borrowed ice from neighbours and paid the same neighbours Rs. 3 to use their MTNL phone. Sure, I do get nostalgic and romanticise the ‘good old days’. But do I miss them and want them back? Are you kidding me? I guess I’m enjoying my ‘good new days’ too much!

DISCLAIMER: This column is to be taken with a big tongue in your cheek and dollops of humour. It’s with malice towards none and truth towards all.
