Exactly a decade after Raaz (2002), Bipasha Basu and director Vikram Bhatt have made a comeback to the superhit franchise. Basu says that her role in Raaz 3D (2012) is challenging and would have subjected any other actor in her place to “second thoughts”.
“I’ve done a variety of films with the Bhatt camp and have matured as an actor. I remember, when I agreed to play Sonia in Jism (2003), everyone tried to dissuade me. But I took the gamble and it paid off. Raaz and Jism were two of my biggest career hits, hopefully Raaz 3D will complete the hat-trick,” says the actor.
Because the film is in 3D, Bipasha needs to spend a lot more time on the hair and make-up paraphernalia, and subtleties in expression and mannerisms. “I’ve never seen myself in 3D before and I’m like an excited child on the sets. The three-dimensional technique is going to amplify the chills and thrills,” she said.
Bipasha herself had a ‘strange’ encounter while shooting for Footpath at the dilapidated Mukesh Mills which has the reputation of being haunted. “In a trolley shot, the crew was in a room opposite the one in which I had to rattle off a long sheet of dialogue after entering. My mind would go blank as soon as I uttered the first word and I’d stop mid-sentence. After around 30 retakes, the shoot was cancelled,” she reminisces.
The next day, a priest was called for puja on the set and it was learnt that a dancer had died in the room, resulting in a spotboy being ‘possessed’. Even after the catharsis, Bipasha continued to feel the shivers and the scene was finally completed elsewhere.

Bipasha is now shooting a song at the same venue for Raaz 3D and says that so far nothing spooky has happened so far.
Bipasha jumped into Raaz 3D a day after she completed Jodi Breakers (2012). The transition from the sunny Sonali to the mysterious Rihanna was traumatic. She says, “One day I was doing a happy rom-com, the next I was in this dark space. As an actor, I was overcome with self-doubt. But Bhattsahab (Mahesh Bhatt) reassured me, telling me it is better to be confused than over-confident.”
