Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has been continuously tasting success with films such as A Wednesday (2008), Baby (2015) and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. While it is often said that the greatest learning happens from failures, Neeraj disagrees and says, “It’s not mandatory that you learn only from failures. One always learns whether their films are successful or not.”
The film-maker goes on to say that he doesn’t live “in the fear” of meeting people’s expectation, since he aims to do good work.

Neeraj recently made a debut on the digital platform with a short film, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Pooja Chopra. Speaking about the experience, Neeraj says that there’s no “difference” between working on a short film and a feature movie.
“For me, the experience is the same. You are trying to tell a story in both the mediums. Of course, there is more latitude in short films. You can express more freely [in a short film],” he says, adding that black comedy is a “challenging” genre to work on. Ask Neeraj why he opted to explore the genre through a short film and not a full-length feature and he says, “Black comedy is a challenging genre. Whether it is a big film or a short film, it doesn’t matter as long as the film is good. It’s the story that matters. The bottom line is to keep the audience engaged. That’s critical.”

Neeraj further says that he is not affected by negative reviews. “More than the reviews, I look forward to receiving feedback. Everybody has something to say about a film. I take the negative feedback, in the same spirit as I take the positive one. It’s not like I only focus on the former. Both kinds of feedbacks are equally welcome,” he says.
