Twenty-seven-year-old Ranbir Kapoor claims that, like any “normal person”, he too has memories attached to the house, Krishna Raj, one of the few bungalows left on Bandra’s Pali Hill. After all, he grew up there. But in a firm tone he adds, “The house has to go. We are only making it better and more practical for the future, so there is more (space) to enjoy.”

Reports have been flooding in lately about Bandra’s Area Locality Managements (ALMs) complaining to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) about Ranbir’s father, Rishi Kapoor’s, plans to convert his Pali Hill bungalow into a 14-storeyed building. But Ranbir doesn’t see why they should have a say in their family matters.

“We are not doing anything for commercial purposes. It’s our own property. My father has even bought the FSI (Floor Space Index), so there should be no issue. We’re not renting it out, or making any gain from starting a company in it,” says the young actor, who will soon be seen in Anjaani Anjaani, opposite Priyanka Chopra.

When asked what he would miss the most about the house, he says, “There are so many things. I also am attached to the small things, like my bed, bathroom, kitchen, my parents’ room, the garden… These are places that make up all my memories; they make up all of what I am.”

After his last release, Raajneeti, which saw him foraying into serious subjects, Ranbir feels he will have to make a conscious effort for people to be interested to see him in different roles. The actor admits, “I felt bad when Rocket Singh did not work. It was very close to me and the fact that people didn’t understand it, made me question my own understanding of films. It made me ask myself whether I know what people want. Should I only be doing Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani type films? Or not… But then this is how we learn.”
