A glitzy opening ceremony in Mumbai with heavy Bollywood presence set the ball rolling for the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League.

A glitzy opening ceremony in Mumbai set the ball rolling for the ninth edition of the Indian Premiere League. Joining actors Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif and Jacqueline Fernandez was West Indian cricketer Dwayne Bravo, who performed to his smash hit rap Champion. Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh too put up a great show.

Yo Yo Honey Singh sets the stage on fire (literally) as he performs at the opening night of the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Singer Ankit Tewari joined Bravo on the stage, with an Indian version of Champion — Hindustan Mein Bade Bade Champion. The Major Lazer group added some international flavour to the ceremony. Though American singer Chris Brown’s performance being scrapped at the last minute was a letdown, Katrina, Jacqueline and Ranveer’s performances more than made up for it.

Actor Preity Zinta, who got married last month, made her first public appearance minus her husband in a red dress and chooda (bangles).
