John, Abhay go the phoren way

Abraham keen on making a British film; setting up production office in London …meanwhile, Deol turns producer with an American short film; plans to bring it to India

It seems John Abraham is taking his role as a film producer very seriously. After making a hit production debut with Vicky Donor, the actor’s next is Shoojit Sircar’s political thriller, Jaffna.

Now, we have heard that John is keen to produce an independent British film. In fact, he is currently believed to be travelling extensively around the UK to kick off the project.

“He is very keen to make a film in Britain. Since he is still new to the world of production, John isn’t in a hurry,” says an insider.

In fact, John is believed to already be setting up the overseas wing of his production house and buying a commercial space in Central London for his office. “John is keen on setting up JA Productions in London. He often travels there, so he can always keep a tab on things easily,” says the insider. He has also announced another production, Hamara Bajaj, with Vicky Donor actor, Ayushmann Khurrana.

Abhay Deol has turned producer, but not for a Bollywood film. He is one of the associate producers for an American short film called Love, Lots Of It. Abhay says, “The writer-director of the film, Rob Feld, is an old friend from New York. He’s had this idea for a while,” adding, “The movie is an American folktale. But it’s a universal subject in that it’s about the crossroads in life.”

The short film has already released on iTunes in USA, and Abhay plans to release it in India as well. He says, “iTunes is a great platform to release your film, and we’ve got a fabulous response for it. For an India release, I have to meet distributors first. I’m not completely aware of the process. Also, I’m not prepared to do it right now.” Abhay adds, “As of now, those on iTunes have access to the film.”

Abhay says that he will produce a Bollywood film some day. He says, “I’ve already been involved in the filmmaking process in Bollywood. I’ve not been formally credited, but I’ve done enough to know what a producer’s job is.”
