For the past couple of years, actor John Abraham had flaunted a beefed-up body. He had gained weight for Nishikant Kamat’s Force (2011) and was seen in a bulked-up look for Shootout At Wadala (2013) and Madras Café (2013). The actor, who is known to be a fitness freak, has now lost about 15 kg for Welcome Back.

John had worked out for two to three months before starting shooting. “John and I knew that he will have to get a leaner look to suit the character. He is playing a street-smart goon and we wanted him to shed some weight for that part,” says Anees Bazmee, director of Welcome Back. After completing the first schedule in Dubai, the actor will begin shooting for the second schedule next week, in Mumbai.

John also had to maintain a special diet to lose the weight. “He had to completely avoid consuming foods that were high on calories and carbohydrates,” says a source.

John is content to have successfully managed to lose weight and feels that his lean look completely matches his character. “The role required me to sport a look and body that suited the comedy genre, unlike the larger-than-life, bulked-up look an action entertainer would require,” says John.
