JOSH makes Bollywood debut

Although Sandeep Chowta has composed the film’s music, it also features a song called Chaddi walley yaar… by the Indo-Canadian band.

The lead singer Rupinder (aka RUP) Magon, who also stars in the sports drama as one of the Punjabi ice hockey players, says, “I’m actually the real Singh, for that matter, amongst all the other Singhs in the film!”

Based in Montreal, Canada, which is better known for its indie rock scene and home to the Grammy Award-winning band Arcade Fire, band member Qurram Hussain is steadfast about JOSH’s music. “Canada does has a prominent indie rock culture, but we have our own style. We are a bhangra-oriented band,” he says.

JOSH has also collaborated with international artiste Nelly Furtado in the past for a remix version of her song Powerless… and, recently, released their fourth album Beyond Kismat. According to Rupinder, the album’s music is “electronically-inspired and house-based. The album also has a pop element to it.”
