Malaal trailer: Debutants Meezaan and Sharmin Segal’s fresh love story looks promising for its Marathi feel and interesting dialogues.

The trailer of Malaal, a film that marks the debut of Javed Jaffrey’s son Meezaan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece Sharmin Segal is out. It shows their intense love story that begins with a love-hate relationship but goes through a tragic struggle.

Set in the heart of Maharashtra, the film’s trailer shows Meezaan and Sharmin as residents of a crowded slum in Mumbai. The curly-haired, salwar-kameez clad Sharmin seems to be an outsider and faces a lot of opposition from the slum’s popular lad, played by Meezaan. His dialogue, “Humare logo ko hata ke har cheez pe kabza kar rahe hain ye. Indian ho to India me jaake raho na, Mumbai me kaahe ko aaya hai (These people are encroaching on everything by removing our people. If you are an Indian then go and live in India, why have you come to Mumbai,” invites attention.

Complete with song and dance sequences in traditional getups, a Ganpati festival in the background and Marathi dialogues, the film reminds us of recent drama, Dhadak that marked the Bollywood debut of Janhvi Kapoor opposite Ishaan Khatter.

The first look of the film was revealed a day before, showing Sharmin Segal seated in front of Meezaan on a bike with her back to the road. Directed by Directed by Mangesh Hadawale, the film is produced by Bhansali along with Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain and Krishan Kumar. It is set to hit theatres on June 28.
