Naseeruddin Shah disowns National Award winning film

When we congratulated Naseeruddin Shah for The Coffin Maker (that won the National Award for Best Film in English), he replied, "No film of mine has won any award. That is NOT my film in any way. It won an award for what??!! Best incomplete film?"

The movie went on to earn accolades at several festivals in India and abroad, and now, it has even won the

National Award

in the best English feature film category. But none of that seems to matter to Naseer, who has disowned the film.

The problems between the makers and the actor apparently began brewing when the shooting of the film — The Coffin Maker — came to a halt due to financial issues. "…when we were ready to roll again, he (Naseer) was unwilling to shoot. After a few meetings, he said he’d report back on the sets only if he was paid an additional Rs 1.5 crore. Imagine his audacity," Veena was quoted saying in a news report in February.

However, the director holds no grudges any longer. She says, "It would have been a pleasure to have him (Naseer) with us in this time."

Currently, Veena is only looking forward to releasing the film commercially. "There are a few people who are speaking to us right now. As you also know, these kind of films, for some reason, are very difficult to market," she adds.
