Nawaz has inhibitions, co-star Huma doesn’t

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who evolves as the central character in the second part of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s gangster opus, Gangs of Wasseypur (GOW), was quite hesitant about shooting intimate scenes with co-star Huma Qureshi.

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who evolves as the central character in the second part of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s gangster opus, Gangs of Wasseypur (GOW), was quite hesitant about shooting intimate scenes with co-star Huma Qureshi. In the film, his relationship with Huma comes to the forefront. This is Nawaz’s first commercial film and Huma’s debut vehicle.

Nawaz says, “In this part, the romance is in a higher degree. There are quite a few bold scenes. It’s a fast-paced and modern film. I was doing such a film for the first time so I was feeling shy.”

Surprisingly, Huma turned out to be more daring in filming bold scenes, even though this was her first film. “There are a number of intimate scenes in the film and I’m quite proud of them because I have a fabulous co-actor in Nawazuddin and a fabulous director in Anurag. At no point did they make me feel uncomfortable. I am okay shooting such scenes if the aesthetics are right,” she says.

Making her point further she adds, “It’s neither a raunchy, sex comedy nor a bedroom comedy. It’s a slice-of-life film. There are no negative connotations or lecherous elements. Even in part one, there was a man-woman relationship, but it wasn’t shot in a sleazy way.”
