No big stars in my movie: Divya Kumar

T-Series owner Bhushan Kumar’s wife Divya turns director in August with Class of 2013, brings Pritam and Irshad Kamil together again.

Divya Kumar is no stranger to the arc lights; she faced the camera in her last film Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo (2004). She’s stayed away from the screen since her marriage to T-Series’ owner Bhushan Kumar but now she’s back, on the other side of the camera this time, with her directorial debut, Class of 2013.

“Yes, I am finally starting the film in August,” says Divya. “And though we were in two minds about it, the title is almost confirmed.” The music team of Jab We Met (2007), Pritam and Irshad Kamil, will also team up again in this movie.

Interestingly though, Divya hasn’t cast any big stars. “The characters in my film are 19- and 20-year-olds and nobody from the industry fits the bill. So the thought of casting big stars never even crossed my mind,” she insists.

About the story, Divya says, “To put it simply, the film is about the youth and their feelings and emotions while growing up. It can be described as the journey of how boys turn into men,” she says.

Being Bhushan’s wife must have been a huge help, right? “Of course, with Bhushan around it will be great. He has a mind for marketing and music. And since the film is being produced by T-Series, we are going to focus greatly on the music. Although I am a bit nervous, I am confident I’ll pull through.”
