No room for complacency: Aditya Roy Kapur

The actor says he deals with competition by giving his best to every role; insists he’s not dating Shraddha Kapoor

There’s rarely a dull moment when you’re with Aditya Roy Kapur. The 28-year-old actor, with a few big films up his sleeve, is enjoying the spotlight, and even the tiresome round of promotions that comes with a release. He’s also unperturbed by the number of actors he faces competition from.

"I think there are more boys in the industry right now. There are fewer girls. I feel it’s great, because everyone has found a place for themselves, and they are doing good work. Competition keeps you on your toes, and that’s good. But the nature of the job is such that it doesn’t allow you to get complacent," he says, adding that an actor never knows where his next film will come from. The only difference between his job and any other, he says, is that an actor’s carer "is in front of the world to see".

Aditya believes in carving a niche for himself by simply giving his best to each role. "I can’t be trying to outdo someone else at acting; it’s such a personal thing. I just ensure that I don’t get complacent, thinking that I’ve gotten somewhere and am great at what I do," he explains.

We can’t not bring up Aditya’s relationship status — a topic he detests. So when we ask about the women in his life — notably alleged girlfriend Shraddha Kapoor — he laughs, saying, "What to say about the women? I am single. If you’re talking about female fans, I have no complaints about that. I’ve come to accept it readily, and the more the merrier, I guess. I wish there were romantic equations I could talk about."
