Making films on religion often leads to controversy, but Nawazuddin Siddiqui doesn’t consider this a deterrent. He feels that Bollywood must create awareness about the shortcomings of various religions on the big screen.
"The way people approach religion today is incorrect. Nowadays, there are many weaknesses in all religions. I feel that films should expose these limitations, and I would love to be part of such projects," says the actor, adding, "However, if a film targets any particular religion, then I would not want to do it."
Nawaz is also open to doing women-centric films, which may not offer him a lot of screen time. "I don’t mind being part of such films at all. If the story is strong, and my character is challenging, I would love to do them. For instance, I enjoyed working on Kahaani (2012). Some of these films have strong storylines, so why would I turn them down," he says.
The actor is also secure about his place in the industry — which is considered unpredictable — and doesn’t fear losing his stardom. He says, "Even if my film career fizzles out, I can do theatre and even street plays. I can work in any medium, because I know I am a good actor, and that’s what matters."
