Music composer Pritam has reacted strongly to reports suggesting that his song Badtameez Dil from the upcoming film, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, is a copy of a popular Bengali song, Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona, by Anjan Dutta.

“Pritam has conveyed, why don’t people speak to a musician who’ll explain to them the difference between notes and grooves...grooves can be similar in two songs. He’s angry and said, ‘why don’t I do a charity music class to explain to people the difference between the two?’” said Pritam’s publicist.

The industry, however, is divided in opinion. “There’s no doubt that Pritam copies songs. I haven’t heard Badtameez Dil yet, but my composer friends from Kolkata say that this song is a complete lift from Anjan Dutta’s song,” says composer Lalit Pandit. “I haven't heard this song but it is not right to only blame the composer. It’s the filmmakers who pressure them. They say, ‘hume toh ye hi gana chahiye’. The composer agrees because he knows if he doesn’t, someone else will do it,” says singer Abhijeet.
