Salim Khan to be honoured

Legendary screenplay writer Salim Khan has been selected for the Madhya Pradesh government’s prestigious National Kishore Kumar Award.

Legendary screenplay writer Salim Khan has been selected for the Madhya Pradesh government’s prestigious National Kishore Kumar Award. Born in Indore in 1935, the veteran scriptwriter has penned scripts for iconic films including Zanjeer, Deewar and Sholay in the seventies and eighties along with his then-partner Javed Akhtar, forming the famous Salim-Javed duo.

The decision was taken unanimously by the jury, official sources said. State culture minister Laxmikant Sharma announced the award. Instituted by the state government’s department of culture in memory of the noted playback singer and actor Kishore, the award includes a cash prize worth Rs 2 lakh and a citation.

The award will be given to Salim at a function in Khandwa, Kishore Kumar’s birth place, on the singer’s death anniversary, on October 13.

Salim is currently supervising the script writing for his son, actor Salman Khan’s upcoming film, Sher Khan.
